IM end-user's course
Two days

This introductory course teaches you the basics of IM, and also covers some advanced features. You learn about the IM Desktop, the end-user application used to interact with IM. The course emphasizes hands-on experience and interaction between student and instructor.

* Individuals and organizations currently evaluating IM.

Prerequisites

* Basic computer skills in a windowing computing environment.

* Working knowledge of window and mouse functions.

* Recommended: working knowledge of an SGML/XML editor such as ADEPT•Editor or Adobe FrameMaker+SGML.

* Using IM to view and edit documents.

* Sharing and re-using information.

* Creating and viewing electronic comments.

Day two

* Searching for information.

* Using the Work Queue to perform workflow tasks.

* Customizing the IM Desktop.

* Creating customized views.

IM administrator's course
Two days

This course covers the more advanced features of IM and describes how to administer IM at your site. The course addresses database management issues such as planning, creating and optimizing repositories.

You also learn how to use the workflow applications to create and manage workflow processes and cases.

* Technical and administrative support staff.

* IM application developers.

Prerequisites

* Basic knowledge of the concepts of SGML/XML.

* Basic skills in operating IM. It is useful to have attended the IM end-user's course.

* Knowledge of system administration tasks and writing shell scripts.

* Recommended: database management skills.

* Managing an IM site.

* Planning and optimizing your repositories.

* Making backups and other routine system administration tasks.

* Creating new users and roles.

Day two

* Creating a workflow repository.

* Creating workflow users.

* Designing and defining workflow processes.

* Creating and managing workflow cases.

* Learning about the various scripting interfaces.

IM developer's course
Three days

This course covers the various programming interfaces to IM, which you can use to write customized applications. The training emphasizes hands-on experience, and you should try out the samples and examples that will be presented in the course.
Who will benefit?

* Application engineers.

* System administrators.

* SGML administrators.

Prerequisites

* Solid familiarity with basic programming constructs.

* Previous attendance at the IM administrator's course (and ideally of the IM end-user's course too).

* Knowledge of SGML concepts.

* Recommended but not essential: ability to program in C, background in database technology and scripting languages.

Course objectives

After you have completed the course, you will have increased knowledge and skills in the following:

* Customizing the IM Desktop user interface.

* Writing macros and scripts for automating tasks and database administration purposes.

* Building applications using IM.

* Integrating other applications into IM.

Introduction to SGML course
1/2 day

This course covers the basics of the Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML), explaining what SGML is and outlining its syntax. We hope this exploration of its benefits will demonstrate why so many industries are adopting SGML. The lectures and workshops in the course explore the evolution from the traditional publishing method (print on paper) to the more recent move to information management and SGML.

Prerequisites

None, except an interest in SGML and a need to gain an understanding of it.
